Bio

Meagan Johnson Smith is a multi-faceted musician with a passion for teaching. With studies in voice performance, pedagogy, conducting, and music education, Ms. Smith received Master and Bachelor of Music Degrees at Ithaca College. She is also a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique, having trained at Alexander Technique Urbana. Ms. Smith has appeared as soprano soloist in concert and oratorio productions in New York and Illinois, most recently with BACH (the Baroque Artists of Champaign-Urbana). Her compositions celebrate the full spectrum of women's voices, including commissions for Amasong and Women's Works. In addition to an active schedule teaching voice and Alexander Technique and mothering a busy two-year-old, Ms. Smith is music director of Amasong, the award-winning lesbian/feminist chorus based in Champaign-Urbana.
